Was at first sceptical, but nothing ventured, nothing gained adage came to mind.
Bought a bottle, thought is a bit pricey for a locally produced whisky, but had to try it. Was very intrigued by the Solera process and how that would impact on the flavours.
Well, off the cuff, the nose was intriguing indeed, got a tad of boiled fruits and citrus thrown in, but the underlying subtle spices drew my attention.
Tried the first dram neat, bit of a bite, but the finish had distinct citrus overtures and a little short.
With a dash of ice, the bite was tamed and could enjoy it further.
Considering the overall Solera process per se, the working capital involved and the attention to detail requirements, well worth the price.
Recon I will buy another bottle in the next couple of months and compare (from a new bottling).
Not the same as a Lowlands whisky blend, but, I do believe you should not compare it, it is unique in its own right.

A good buy at this price point. Well worth trying. Something different

I have had most iterations of the whiskeys since 2018 and this is probably the most unique. I can guarantee you won’t find another whiskey similar to this. As niche as it is, it doesn’t disappoint on taste and is a serious whiskey. Previous comment on the price can be disregarded-There simply isn’t a better whiskey at this price point, be it local or abroad. Blind tastings were done and dare I say “smoked” a lot of premium whiskeys well over R1k. Do yourself a favour and pick it up with the highveld whiskey.
