Was at first sceptical, but nothing ventured, nothing gained adage came to mind.
Bought a bottle, thought is a bit pricey for a locally produced whisky, but had to try it. Was very intrigued by the Solera process and how that would impact on the flavours.
Well, off the cuff, the nose was intriguing indeed, got a tad of boiled fruits and citrus thrown in, but the underlying subtle spices drew my attention.
Tried the first dram neat, bit of a bite, but the finish had distinct citrus overtures and a little short.
With a dash of ice, the bite was tamed and could enjoy it further.
Considering the overall Solera process per se, the working capital involved and the attention to detail requirements, well worth the price.
Recon I will buy another bottle in the next couple of months and compare (from a new bottling).
Not the same as a Lowlands whisky blend, but, I do believe you should not compare it, it is unique in its own right.
